Singing Resistance: Music in Expressions of Protest by Sumangala Damodaran

The Indian Music Experience Museum (IME) and Silver Talkies are celebrating the month of August with the theme of ‘The Spirit of Freedom’

While a national holiday brings a reawakening of patriotic feelings, the idea is to explore Freedom as a concept – both with pride as well as a reflection of how Music has played a vital role as a tool of expression. The events throughout the month will span talks, presentations, performances and a showcase of music from India and around the world that signified movements among people.The session will take listeners through a brief history and chronology of music that has articulated resistance of one sort or the other in India over the past eighty years or so.
