Chitra Divakaruni is an award-winning writer, activist, professor, and speaker, as well as the author of 21 books. Her work has been featured in over 100 magazines and anthologies, including The Atlantic, The New Yorker, The Best American Short Stories, and The O. Henry Prize Stories. It has been translated into 30 languages, such as Dutch, Hebrew, Bengali, Hungarian, Turkish, Hindi, and Japanese.

Her creations have been adapted into films, plays, dance dramas, and even operas. Among her many accolades are the American Book Award, the PEN Josephine Miles Award, the Premio Scanno, and the Light of India Award. In 2015, The Economic Times recognized her as one of the 20 Most Influential Global Indian Women.
